Composition and Classification of PET Filament Sound-Insulation Felt

Sound-insulation felt is typically composed of rubber, bitumen, plastic, high-density mineral particles, or composites thereof. Its composition generally consists of three parts: base materials, fillers, and additives. Base materials primarily include bitumen, rubber, EPDM, PVC, and CPE; fillers-such as metal powder, quartz powder, and heavy calcium carbonate-are used to increase density; and additives are employed to enhance physical properties (such as elasticity, adhesion, and fire resistance) while also influencing environmental performance.

Based on the base material, these felts are primarily classified into categories such as virgin rubber-based and PVC-based. Virgin rubber-based sound-insulation felt offers excellent performance but comes at a higher cost; conversely, PVC-based felt-formulated with iron powder or heavy mineral powder-offers a superior cost-performance ratio, making it more suitable for the architectural renovation sector.
TECSOUND, a brand under the Spanish company Texsa International, is a well-known name in the sound-insulation felt market; its products are synthesized from natural rubber, metal powder, and polymer-mineral compounds. Texsa was founded in 1954 and has since been acquired by Soprema, while the TECSOUND brand was established in 2007.
