Stable Three-Dimensional Shape with Open Acoustic Pores
PET Thermoformed Acoustic Felt is an automotive acoustic material that combines three-dimensional forming with medium- and high-frequency sound absorption.
The product is based on soft thermoformable PET felt. Its fiber fineness, basis weight, porosity, and hot-pressing level are controlled so that the finished component retains connected acoustic pores after molding.
Unlike flat sound-absorbing cotton, the material can follow the curved surfaces of door panels, headliners, front bulkheads, and motor housings. Unlike high-density rigid felt, it is not excessively compressed during forming. This helps preserve the internal space required for sound-energy dissipation.
The material is suitable for automotive parts that must closely follow a component profile while continuing to absorb sound inside the surrounding cavity.

Microfine PET Fibers for Medium- and High-Frequency Noise
High-end acoustic grades can contain 65%–75% microfine PET fibers. These fibers have a linear density of 0.1–1.0 dtex and a diameter of about 1–5 μm.
The fine fibers increase the internal surface area available for contact with sound waves. This structure focuses on noise between 500 Hz and 8 kHz, including motor noise, vehicle-cavity sound, and medium- to high-frequency noise near doors and front bulkheads.
High-end grades have a raw-felt basis weight of 600–1,200 g/m². Finished density is 0.02–0.06 g/cm³, and thickness is 15–30 mm. Porosity can reach 90%–96%, while air permeability is 500–1,000 L/(m²·s).
Compression recovery is at least 85%. Thermal conductivity is 0.032–0.038 W/(m·K), allowing the material to provide acoustic absorption together with cushioning and limited thermal control.
NRC Performance under Different Installation Conditions
A typical 20 mm automotive grade installed directly against a surface provides an NRC of about 0.55–0.65. A high-end acoustic grade of the same thickness can reach about 0.70–0.85.
When a 50 mm air cavity is left behind a 20 mm high-end product, the NRC can increase to about 0.80–0.92. A 30 mm product combined with a 50 mm cavity can reach about 0.85–0.95.
These installation options are suitable for doors, front bulkheads, wheel cavities, and motor-noise-control structures with internal space behind the acoustic layer.
High-end products have a formaldehyde emission value of no more than 10 μg/(m²·h) and an odor grade of no more than 3.0. Conventional automotive grades have a formaldehyde emission value of no more than 15 μg/(m²·h) and an odor grade of no more than 3.5.
The material does not use solvent-based adhesives. FMVSS 302 or B1 flame-retardant options can be selected according to project requirements.

Custom Molding and Sample Confirmation

Jiangsu Haokai can adjust the microfine-fiber content, raw-felt weight, hot-pressing density, and finished thickness according to the target frequency, available cavity, component curvature, and installation limit.
PET Thermoformed Acoustic Felt can be processed by mold forming, steam molding, and precision die cutting into parts with holes, curves, clearance areas, and locally compressed zones.
A project can begin with material selection, samples, and trial validation before moving to small-batch production and volume preparation. Custom sample development normally takes 10–15 days.
The regular minimum order quantity is 1,000. Standard and custom products generally require 7–15 days for production. Finished goods receive 100% inspection before packing, and third-party inspection is accepted.
