High-Density PET Structure for Shape Retention
PET Rigid Thermoformed Felt uses a higher proportion of low-melting-point LMPET fibers to create a dense and rigid structure after hot pressing.
The ratio of conventional PET to low-melting-point PET is normally 50–70:30–50. During forming, the LMPET melts and fixes the fiber intersections, while the conventional PET fibers remain inside the material as a reinforcing framework.
This combination provides support, component positioning, shape retention, and sound-blocking performance while maintaining a degree of toughness.
Compared with soft thermoformed felt, the rigid product has a higher pressed density, lower finished thickness, and more obvious stiffness. It is mainly used where a component must hold a three-dimensional profile, support a decorative surface, or work as a high-impedance acoustic layer.

Mechanical Strength and Molded Dimensions
Raw-felt basis weight ranges from 400 to 1,800 g/m². Typical automotive structural grades use 800–1,400 g/m².
Finished density ranges from 0.3 to 1.0 g/cm³, with typical automotive values of 0.5–0.8 g/cm³. Finished thickness is 1.0–5.0 mm, while automotive components commonly use 1.5–3.0 mm.
Tensile strength ranges from 2.0 to 8.0 MPa, with typical automotive grades reaching at least 3.0 MPa. Flexural strength is 1.5–6.0 MPa, with typical values of at least 2.0 MPa.
Tear strength ranges from 80 to 300 N, while typical products reach at least 150 N.
During hot pressing, the original felt thickness is normally compressed by 60%–80%. This creates a thin, dense structure for installation areas with limited space.
Sound Insulation and Environmental Performance
Increasing the basis weight improves sound-blocking performance. A 1,400 g/m² rigid felt provides a weighted sound reduction index of about Rw 20–23 dB.
PET Rigid Thermoformed Felt can be used as an automotive interior supporting layer, sound-insulation layer, or high-impedance layer in a soft-and-rigid composite component.
Heat-deformation temperature ranges from 100 to 130°C, with typical automotive grades reaching at least 120°C.
After exposure to 120°C for one hour, dimensional shrinkage is no more than 1.5%. Typical products remain at or below 1.0%.
Water absorption after 24 hours at 23°C is no more than 1%. A water-repellent treatment can reduce it to no more than 0.5%.
Available flame-retardant options include FMVSS 302, GB 8410, and UL 94 HF-1. The FMVSS 302 burning rate can be controlled within 80 mm/min.

Structural Applications and Batch Control

Typical applications include wheel-housing liners, trunk side panels, spare-wheel covers, parcel shelves, tailgate interior panels, and high-voltage wiring shields.
Jiangsu Haokai can adjust raw-felt weight, molded density, thickness, mounting holes, local reinforcement, inserts, and unequal-thickness structures according to component requirements.
Samples can be supplied before volume production. Production photos or videos can be provided, and repeat-order lead times may be shortened after the process is stable.
Every component receives 100% inspection before packing. Packaging can be designed around rigid edges, curved surfaces, and stacking loads to reduce deformation during transportation.
